The Magi’s plans to manipulate the media into tricking the people into believing JIOR is the real enemy turn into a success. What will Haruto and company do now?
RECAP: Because of the public execution/performance of Rukino Saki, Humanity itself now views JIOR as true enemies of mankind. As the students attempt to flee the purge, only a handful of them are able to escape by using small ships in the hangar on the Mass Driver, a high-speed catapult system on the Moon. But things go awry when Haruto is called back only to be betrayed by the people he sought to protect, especially Shoko. When he is captured, Inuzuka fights his way to protect Shoko’s ship to escape as well as saving Haruto from capture. But his courageous act comes at a high price.
Under the claim of international law, our JIOR students are classified as Type-7 Dangerous Lifeforms, the President of ARUS orders a purge to massacre them all without prejudice. With the “real enemy” in front of them, ARUS and Dorssia ally together under the guise of protecting humanity. As much as I’d like to root for our heroes, I honestly praise Cain for devising this plan to turn things around so fast. It was perfectly orchestrated to make JIOR look bad, thus making the situation increasingly difficult for Haruto and the others. And here I was thinking what the reason for leaving Saki on Earth was.
Also, I don’t remember too well, but wasn’t the President of ARUS present at the Magi meeting at the end of Season 1? And speaking of Season 1, remember the Flash-Forward of Saki fighting some random guy? I suppose the battle that started here still looms onward later.
But even if a handful of students are able to escape, where could they escape to? Even with the Mass Driver to catapult the hangar ships into the deeper reaches of space there is no place for them to belong. Where L-elf told Liselotte that he had a place for them to escape to, that place exists no longer.
And simple as that, Haruto is betrayed, thanks to the human nature of fear. It is already bad enough that he is beginning to lose his memories through Pino. With the loss of his memories, even Shoko does not believe in him anymore, thinking he is truly a monster that is no longer the Haruto she once knew. Where Haruto sought to protect everyone by not telling them anything about the Valvraves, it backfires on him.
Determined to deny the label of “monster,” Inuzuka protects the last hangar ship that Shoko is on before ARUS destroys it and the Mass Driver. He takes his supposed last stand to save Haruto from capture. However, in the process, he and his Valvrave unit are destroyed.
RIP Inuzuka-senpai. You’ve fought valiantly.
