RECAP:  L-elf’s efforts to rescue Liselotte are not without obstacles.  Additionally, the rest of the students securing the rocket at the museum are surrounded by Cain’s forces.  Haruto makes way to L-elf’s position, taking Liselotte with him as L-elf races to the drawbridge to forge another path for the rocket.  As the rocket lifts off into the atmosphere, Q-vier’s fire strikes one of the propelling rockets.  Inspired by L-elf’s feelings and Haruto’s words, Liselotte uses what little Rune energy left she has to save L-elf and the others.

L-elf’s confession aside, the most important part of this episode is a follow-up to Prof. Tokishima’s reveal from last episode: the truth of the Magius.  We already had a notion that Pino was somehow related to the Magius, seeing as she is the core of the Valvrave system itself.  Her exclamation towards Liselotte’s presence is now proof of that connection.

Furthermore, to Haruto’s behest, Liselotte gives the real answers Haruto was looking for in this trip to Earth.  The Magius are an intergalactic, formless being that latches onto other life-forms for survival; sustaining themselves for centuries this way.  The Council of Hundred and One are an organization formed to hold secret their identity from mankind.

With all that said, two new questions now arise:  How did JIOR find out about the Magius, and how did they seal Pino and Prue into the Valvrave Core Drives?

As the Valvraves defend the escape rocket, Liselotte reveals a little bit more about herself.  She wished to oppose the Council and her punishment is to be constantly drained of Rune energy.  With her comments about how she treasured L-elf’s confession, but cannot reciprocate those feelings, Haruto relates and urges her to seek a way of co-existence.  This just might be foreshadowing what will become Haruto’s new goal once he realizes that destroying the “curse” is more than he thought:  Co-existence between the Magius and Humanity.

To save L-elf and his “friends,” Liselotte sacrifices herself to stop the destruction of the rocket stolen to escape.  With the loss of the love of his life, L-elf will go full-on into despair mode come next episode.  But, once Haruto tells him the truth, L-elf is sure to regain determination to get back at Cain.

Meanwhile, Saki is still onboard the stolen Dorssian transport with A-drei.  He is just as smart as L-elf, so he is very unlikely to shoot Saki first and ask questions later.

Rating:  4/5

How do you find the new ED for Valvrave? I heard it’s the singer’s debut song into the Japanese music market.

PS. Re Liselotte: The writers are utterly cruel bastards.
Although she finally managed to wipe off that smug smile Cain had on his face throughout Season 1 and most of Season 2.

  3. Sorry for the late reply. Holidays have busy. As usual, I haven’t gotten much time to really sink into the new ED song. I was actually marathoning a bunch of other shows when I watched this episode, so I usually skip OP/EDs to save time. I’ll be sure to take a listen in epi.20.
