This week we meet Haruto’s father and he holds the answer behind the Valvrave project.
RECAP: With the help of the Dorssian Royalists, L-Elf formulates a plan to rescue the captured JIORians and secure transport to return home to Module 77. With the realization that Liselotte is involved, L-Elf ditches the plan to seek her out. Meanwhile, Haruto, Kyuma, and Kibukawa-sensei, carry on the plan and find the captured JIORians. There, they find out the ugly truth behind the Valvrave project from the project head himself, Tokishima Souichi, Haruto’s father.
L-Elf’s plan consists of working with the Royalists to rescue the JIOR hostages and seize a transport vessel to return to space. With the help of Kriemhild, Cain’s aide and secretly a Royalist, they are able to find safe passage into Dorssiana, the former capital of Dorssia. What I like about Kriemhild’s actions are that she is observing for herself that things are not right. Ever since season one, she has begun to question Colonel Cain’s actions and trying to look into the situation herself, rather than merely being a dog of the military. However, she must tread carefully, for she too could end up like H-neun.
Since L-elf ditched the guys to find his girlfriend, Haruto finally encounters his father after three years of no contact. What is disgustingly surprising to find is that Tokishima Souichi, leader of the Valvrave Project, is a scientific nutcase that thinks nothing of moral repercussions towards the development of the Valvraves. They confirm what we already have come to know: all the students of the academy on Module 77 were engineered to become Valvrave pilots. What’s more is that they were created to become a transcendent life form beyond humans. Essentially, Souichi and the scientists of the Project were attempting to play God… and succeeded.
With all that said, Haruto’s conviction to end the Valvrave “Curse” with his generation becomes stronger.
Meanwhile, L-elf seeks to retry what he did several years ago: rescue the princess. Liselotte’s imprisonment behind the walls of Dorssiana have been a secret, and now L-elf finally knows where she is. We already have an idea of what kind of relationship they have, thanks to the flashback in season one, and this episode’s dream flashback. L-elf holds a great debt to her for saving his life, and most likely also holds feelings for her, despite his ice-cold demeanor. But a big mystery still lies from the beginning of the episode: what is Liselotte’s relationship to the Magius and what was it she was doing in that machine?
Stop being creepy, dad!
