Marie. Pino. Unit-01. Runes. How will Haruto cope with the new findings about being a Valvrave pilot?
RECAP: Marie’s passing has the students grieving, Haruto especially as the Pilot of Unit-01. But that doesn’t change that there are things that need to be done. Helping the Dorssian Royalists mean receiving supplies to continue their original mission to seek out the JIORian scientists. What Haruto and L-elf find just might be a bigger threat than they originally thought this war was. Meanwhile, H-neun sticks his nose into Cain’s business, revealing that there is even more to Cain and the Magi than we may have thought.
With Marie in her current condition, Haruto comes to the realization that he too will end up just like her if he continues to pilot the Valvrave. With this in mind, it is a likely theory that, based on the flash-forwards, Haruto may expend all his Rune energy in the final battle, causing his memory wipe or worse, death.
With the Dorssian Royalists offering help, they require help in return: taking out a secret Dorssian submarine. Meanwhile, with the loss of Marie, Haruto finds it difficult to continue to pilot Unit-01. Completely understandable, when you consider that piloting means throwing your life away in more than just battle.
However, that submarine doesn’t look to be all it was surmised. It bears a strange emblem that L-Elf does not recognize under Dorssian colors. Which brings us to the next big reveal of the episode…
It seems that Grunau is more than simply a hidden, solitary Dorssian fortress. With the docking of the mystery emblem submarine, it already seems suspicious. What Haruto and L-Elf come to find here is a Rune harvesting facility in the deepest depths of the castle. Meanwhile, topside, H-neun infiltrates Grunau only to find Colonel Cain… who doesn’t seem to be like himself. Rather, this seem to be his true colors. Just like how Haruto and the others can body switch, it would seem that the Magi use the same technique to keep control of the high-ranking officials of the nations: Corruption at its finest.
When L-Elf attempts to place Satomi into the cockpit of Unit-01, due to Haruto’s current incompetence as a pilot, Haruto rages against his decision as usual. The two butt heads again: Haruto with his problem about losing his memories and even his life staying a pilot, but also L-Elf with his helplessness to fight despite his incredible skills. Determined to hold this “curse” in his own hands, Haruto finds the courage to pilot Unit-01 again.
The Cherry Blossom-like emblem comes up once again on this unknown spaceship with a cloaking device. This now draws the suspicion that the Magi are more than just a 3rd party within the upper ranks of Dorssia and ARUS. It isn’t impossible that they are an entity that simply just aren’t human: Aliens from another world seeking a food source. This may be where Prue and Pino share their origin. The JIORans knew what was going on, so they used Prue and Pino to fight back against this threat against humanity. Put that way, it makes sense that JIOR kept the Valvrave project a secret from both of the other nations.
Why is Pino so cute even when she is talking about eating my life away?
