Haruto-tachi makes their descent to Earth. But not without complications…
RECAP: As the Earth Recon team makes way to the space station that manages landing to Earth, they get some time to relax after the fierce battle upon leaving Module 77. When they begin their entry process, Dorssia catches wind of their ship’s frequency, allowing them to pinpoint their location and attack again. The Valvraves are able to fend them off, but Akira gets caught too far away from the shuttle. With everyone’s efforts combined, they are able to recover Akira and land on Earth… but not exactly where they were hoping.
The primary focus of this week’s episode is the relationship between Akira and Satomi. We’ve already come to understand during season 1 that their sibling relationship isn’t exactly on great terms. Akira dislikes her brother because he never stood up for her when she was in trouble during their middle school years. But I’ll get to that in a bit.
L-Elf’s plan to gain “permission” to dock and land on Earth was ingenious. I was expecting him to already have some sort of paperwork and sweet-talk acting all set for when they docked. But instead we get Raizo and Kyuma taking advantage of their curse to body switch with the space station workers. Of course, when things can go wrong, they will. But the trigger that allows Dorssia to find their position is also the trigger that sets a string of events that enable Satomi and Akira to reconcile… even if by a bit.
Yusuke and Kibukawa-sensei’s new invention, the Familiar, is a neat attachment for the Valvraves. From what it looks like, it attaches like a gauntlet and possibly utilizes the heat signatures generated by the Unit. It acts like a Heat Sink, absorbing the Unit’s heat levels and expending that energy as a weapon. If anyone saw differently, please enlighten me upon your observations as the tech and how it works highly interests me when it comes to the Valvrave Units.
As a continuation from the earlier paragraph about Akira, we are reminded that she was bullied during middle school and that is why she went full hikkikomori mode. She hacked JIOR’s mainframe in order to help Satomi, but got caught in the process. How and why the rest of the students at school found out about this incident is beyond me. You’d think that the school staff would want to keep “a little girl hacked our systems” all hush-hush. As a result, she was bullied and Satomi didn’t defend or help her when she needed it. It would seem that Satomi has regretted it since then and has tried to make it up to her by “protecting” her the way he has been showing us. Luckily, he manned the hell up and took responsibility this time around, allowing the recovery of Akira and Haruto as they descended upon Earth.
With Liesolette back in the picture, does this mean an imminent meeting between her and L-Elf?
But the surprising factor here is the tidbit of backstory coming from Marie in this scene: Amnesia? How is this relevant to the rest of the cast? Marie is Shoko’s best friend, but where does that place her when it comes to Haruto? She doesn’t know her own past and could be a childhood friend that Haruto has forgotten about. Also, you may have noticed her concern for Haruto’s well-being during the battle in this episode. Has she been hiding feelings for him for Shoko’s sake?
Meanwhile, in Dorssia… Something is going on between these two.
