The Culture Festival is coming up soon! And guess who is forced to work on the prep committee?!
RECAP: The Culture Festival is soon upon us as Hikki is forcibly placed on the Festival prep staff. A classmate, Sagami Minami, takes up the honor of Committee Chairman, but asks the Public Service club for assistance, as she is not confident in herself to live up to the task. Yukino accepts the task alone, leaving Yui frustrated. With Sagami’s lazy demeanor in Chairman activity, a majority of the work ends up falling into Yukino’s hands as Vice-Chairman.
I feel so bad for Yui right now. Not only because she is my favorite girl in the series right now, but because she doesn’t know what to do about the current situation with Hikki and Yukino. Ever since the summer break, Yukino has definitely been very standoff-ish. She is seemingly not as talkative, at least with Yui, as before. Hikki is just being his usual self, so no surprise there. But he too also doesn’t know how to approach the once-again ice queen Yukino. To make matters worse, Yui feels betrayed that Yukino is taking on a Club request on her own, without relying on her and Hikki.
If there is anything to be gathered from this episode, it is that Yukino despises being compared to her sister and looking like the bad guy in doing so. She is meticulous in making sure that the Festival Committee will be ready and have countermeasures for if things were to go South, so she isn’t in the wrong with her decisions as Vice-chairman. However, the student council president and the volunteering of Yukinoshita Haruno seem to make it hard for her to breathe.
In ways, it is believable to think that this was Sagami’s plan all along: Take the role, give all the work to others, and receive the credit. She may have also been threatened by the fact that Yukino was doing a much better job than her with Chairman duties. However, her obvious slacking and suggestion to ease off the overall work has permeated into the rest of the committee, making the workload worse for those who are actually doing the work. She is definitely one of the worst kinds of people out there.
With everything that has been going on, especially with all the pressure and workload being placed on Yukino, she has called out sick. It is bad enough that the number of committee staff has already dwindled since Sagami’s blunder of a suggestion. But there is one thing about Yukino’s absence that makes me think this was planned all along. She understands the kind of person Sagami is already and has already forseen that the committee workload will begin to pile up. Is it not possible that Yukno intentionally set up a situation in which Sagami will feel the full force of responsibility as the Festival Committee Chairman? With Yukino gone, the workflow is stagnated. All of that will crash upon Sagami and, surely, this will help her “grow as a person.”
I don’t think I could ever break a promise with Yui. ❤
