It’s Manga Monday. A weekly post highlighting a different series. I’ll mostly do posts on completed or ongoing series that are regularly updated. While I do not condone scanlations, please support the creator and licensing companies by purchasing the work where available.
This week’s manga is – Akame ga Kill!
Tatsumi is a fighter who just got robbed by a pretty girl, but his luck seems to be looking up, as another pretty girl has taken him in. What he doesn’t know is that this girl is about to be visited by a family of assassins (including the girl who robbed him) and they might be the good guys, and be recruiting…
Akame ga Kill! starts out like the common Shounen setup: Young adventurer wants to become somebody in order to save his home. It doesn’t take long for all of that to be thrown out the window as Tatsumi learns how twisted the world beyond his village really is. Things get even more complicated and twisted when he encounters the Assassin group, Night Raid, all armed with supernatural weapons called “Teigu.” Aside from the main content of the story, what I think is really interesting about this series is the amount of depth and connection we get with EVERY SINGLE MAIN CHARACTER. What’s more is that, with the way it is written, you almost never know when and if your favorite person will be killed off. That feeling creates so much more suspense, pulling readers to want to know what will happen in the coming chapters. If you don’t mind bloodshed, action and comedy all rolled up in a very well-drawn package, check out Akame ga Kill!
