Rukino Saki. High-school student. Idol. Mech Pilot.
RECAP: Saki takes surprising initiative in answering YES to throw away her humanity by piloting the Green Valvrave. She hopes to take advantage of this to further her personal agenda to become more famous. Because of her compatibility, L-Elf deduces the idea that the school on Module 77 was also part of the Valvrave plan. Later, Dorssia attacks with great effectiveness. But they are not prepared for the coming of two Valvraves.
It is hard to think if Saki has any sort of feelings towards Haruto after this episode. The writers really pushed pretty much her entire background story all in this one instance. While she recognizes Haruto’s kindness, she is also taking advantage of his naivety. I hope she comes to fall in love with Haruto more, since love triangles are the key to drama in mecha series. She says so herself that she feels the need to become even more famous to prove to others (mostly herself) that she is a worthwhile human being. Funny how I phrased that. She threw away her humanity to prove something TO humanity.
Although the scene was very quick, L-Elf is slowly uncovering the secrets of the Valvrave project in the background. I think he still, however, does not understand the full reasons behind initiating the Pilot status. It is possible he doesn’t know about the Question and the drawing of blood. Either way, he is inching closer to the truth behind Module 77’s underground pet project and the connection the school has with it. Haruto, like many other mecha series MCs out there, may have been destined to pilot when you consider his father was one of the project helmsman. But what about those who become pilots after him? How are they connected if the strings of fate are always intertwined?
I like the mechanical ability of the Green Valvrave. It fits Saki very much as the multiple “legs” that enable mid-flight vector changes make the machine seem like it is dancing… like an idol!
With the pacing of this episode (rushing Saki’s piloting position), I suspect that the reveal of the next pilots will come very soon. We know now that the other Valvrave colors are completely separate robots and not armaments like I had wrongly predicted. According to the Opening sequence, we still have the Yellow Shoulder-Cannon, Blue Bowman, and Purple Staff. Keep in mind, also, that Haruto’s Red Swordsman is labeled Valvrave I (VVVI) and Saki’s Carmilla is labeled Valvrave IV (VVVIV). With that known, we still have spots for 2, 3, and 5, with others existence unknown. However, more than 5 is unlikely since “V” also means 5 in Roman numbers. But hey, there could still be a Final Valvrave that basically reaches god-tier level of power.
Personally, I think Haruto X Saki look a lot better together than Haruto X Shoko. Just sayin’.
