It’s Manga Monday. A weekly post highlighting a different series. I’ll mostly do posts on completed or ongoing series that are regularly updated. While I do not condone scanlations, please support the creator and licensing companies by purchasing the work where available.
This week’s manga is – Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha INNOCENT
Set in an alternate universe to the original Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha series, INNOCENT takes the famed characters and places them in a more normal situation. Nanoha and her classmates check out a new card game that utilizes a Virtual Reality system, called Brave Duel, at a newly opened store in town. The VR card battle game is based on using magic and fighting techniques very similar to the original series. Manga is set to illustrate background and story for a social media cell phone game.
When people ask me for an anime recommendations, I always answer “Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha. It’s a magical girl show, yeah, but it has battle action like Gundam space battles.” That said, you can be sure that I am always stoked to see more from the series itself, even if it is an alternate universe story meant to promote a video game. What makes this side-story fun and interesting to me is that it has the overall title theme: “Innocent.” It disregards the negative relationships presented in the original series and places all of the characters in a more friendly, yet competitive, manner. Fighting isn’t life for Nanoha, Fate and the rest of the girls; it is just a game to have fun. With that said, any time we can get a chance to see Nanoha “befriend” people is always alright in my book.
