Anime Review: Love Live! School Idol Project – 10

It’s the sea!  Is it play time or practice time?

——

RECAP:  In an effort to beat the summer heat during practice hours, the girls decide to go on a beach trip via Maki’s summer villa.  At the same time, Eri suggests a rule for μ’s to follow as a means to get everyone to see each other as equals and better friends.  However, the toughest nut to crack is the quiet, reserved Maki.

If you’re unfamiliar with Japanese culture, the Senpai-Kouhai relationship is very important.  Although it is a means of respecting one’s elders, it also creates a barrier between people simply because of age/experience.  The rule Eri imposes on μ’s of “No upperclassmen!”  is meant to ditch the –senpai honorific when everyone refers to each other.  This forces them to use just their names or add the –chan onto their names.  It is a really good way for them to become closer as an Idol group and friends.

The playtime scenes at the beach in this episode act as a big reference to μ’s 3rd PV “Natsuiro egao de 1-2-JUMP!”  Some references made were things like: playing at the beach, Niko taking the watermelon away from Hanayo, and Maki sitting alone at the beach chair.  I was kind of hoping they’d perform this song at the end of the episode; maybe next time.  The next episode preview says they will be doing another performance.  I will assume that it is their last performance before the rankings for Love Live are tallied.

Oh and if you’re a μ’s fan already, you may have noticed Kotori’s pillow that she can’t leave home without. 😛

To continue on Eri’s “No Upperclassmen!” rule, Maki has always been very stubborn when it comes to expressing herself with the rest of the μ’s girls.  Despite being a first year student, she exerts this cool and mature aura that is hard to come in contact with.  I think that is why I like her so much.  Maki is a high contender for my favorite μ’s member, next to Kotori.  Anyways, thanks to Nozomi’s slight nudges, Maki is able to gradually become more familiar with everyone else, especially with Eri and Nozomi.

GO Rating:  3.5/5

Snacking before bed in a room with 8 others is okay, right? Right?

  1. I really need to start watching this anime. I’ve seen so many of their music video dances!! It’s so adorable!!

    • If you like the music videos now, the anime is sure to garner more of your love towards the girls. The backstory to how they come together makes everything better.
