It’s Manga Monday. A weekly post highlighting a different series. I’ll mostly do posts on completed or ongoing series that are regularly updated. While I do not condone scanlations, please support the creator and licensing companies by purchasing the work where available.
This week’s manga is – Prunus Girl
–
Summary (Mangainn.com):
Maki-kun goes to look at the results of his high school entrance exam and meets a beautiful girl. Could this be a fated encounter? He’s thrilled to find out that the same girl, Aikawa Kizuna, not only ends up going to his school, but is in his class. However, he’s not so thrilled to find out that Aikawa is really a guy!
Hako’s Thoughts:
It’s still February, even though it is past Valentine’s Day, let’s stay on the topic of love! Well, in this case, an odd couple. Aikawa is always hanging on Maki’s arm to the point most of the people at school just assume they are together. Maki always gets into situations where he must constantly remind himself that Aikawa is a guy. Sure, if you read it in such a way, it’s pretty gay. But it is rather entertaining to watch Maki’s reactions, especially when situations arise where he can’t leave Aikawa alone. I’d say this series takes the gender-bender genre to a different level. Even though Aikawa always reassures the cast that she is actually a guy, after a 3-year long serialization (and still going) there have been no hints to really tell us the truth of the matter. After reading it up to now, I eagerly await the moment when we find out Aikawa is really a girl. But I won’t put it past the author to just go with the full-on homo route. Which is okay too because the entire adventure is just fun to read.
Oh, did I forget to mention there is also a female love triangle midway through the series? Yeah, it has that.

Prunus girl was a long running series and I enjoyed it since 2009. I don’t think it will be end soon due Aikawa’s gender in question.
Good review, but its a little bit dry. You need to explore more around Maki and Aikawa. Combine a picture and paragraph will be much better.
Lastly, I cannot find ‘Like’ button in here.
Thanks for the comment, Manifest. As of the latest Chapter 41, I actually feel like the series may end soon. Unless the author is screwing around with us again, Maki seems to realize his feelings about everything.
I apologize if the article for the doesn’t do the series justice as my Manga Monday series is really meant to introduce series that may be overlooked, just to get the title name out there. I hope you’ll come to like and enjoy any of my future posts as well.
No worry, Hako. In matter fact, it was good review about Prunus Girl manga although it was a short one.
Need it to be developed if you are a Prunus Girl’s fan.
